Naming Day

Morning and we have a new ATG/Embellish at Artistic Inspirations and we are sponsored by Colour of Love I had a request for a non-religious naming day card -NOW- I have made baby cards/Christening cards galore with no problem-but this one caused me such a headache???
Whether it was the fact it wasn't a Christening card I have no idea but this card was my actual 4th attempt after two weeks of deliberating what to do--finally I resorted to Google and Pinterest and bingo-just make a baby card and add the appropriate sentiment-now how simple is that??? Well obviously not!!!

I decided on the image Georgie Giraffe distress inked round the edges-that was too dark-print out again and rethink the layout-added ribbon and was just about to add the bow when I realised the sheer ribbon---which was stuck down at this point changed colour when I moved from the desk to near the window and nowhere near matched, found some more hidden at bottom of ribbon boxand as the ribbon went round card I had to glue some on narrow card and stick on the top.

Image was coloured with promarkers and added glossy accents,I embossed the background with a Tattered Lace EF,dies from Marianne and spellbinders/balloon die was a gift so no idea of make(Thank you Lisa)ribbon and button from stash and sentiment was computer generated in Dafont.

And what a beauty it is, Carol. You are so versatile. I think I'd have struggled, too - first time I've ever heard of a 'Naming Day'.
Happy Bank Holiday!

Hi, Carol! Thank you so much for bringing "naming day" to my attention. I hadn't heard of it before, and thoroughly enjoyed reading one family's Naming Day traditions. So sweet, and is a delightful way of sharing the family's special love of a new addition with the rest of their family and friends! Your card is adorable, and I know it will be kept as a keepsake, since it is hand made with lots of lovingkindness! The balloons, delicate dies, and lovely satin ribbons make this an especially pretty card! Thanks again for educating me! hugs, de

It's a lovely card for a baby boy and a naming day is something unusual as well so I think I would have been stumped as well.

This is a fabulous card and I wouldn't have known that you struggled with it. I love the stamp that you've used and the composition is just perfect. I've just had to make a card for a friend of our Daughter who's just given birth to triplets (Three boys.) I ended up making an 8x8 card to fit three blue prams on. She had them at 32 weeks, three weeks ago. The bigger two are now at home but the smallest is still in high dependency but is doing really well. He only weighed 1lb 12oz, bless him. They just wanted a second baby to complete their family but ended up with three more. It will be hard work for them but they are truly blessed and I know that they'll do a great job with the help of family and friends. I guess life is full of surprises x

Oh, oh, oh - I cannot tell you how much I love this card, it is stunning. As you know, we have a baby boy on the way, I am so tempted to 'borrow' your gorgeous design and try to re-create it, I hope that is OK? I already have the balloons (mine are by 'Tanser') and the embossing folder, just need Georgie and your knack for bow making.

My my Carol, you had a time with this one, but it looks perfect. I had to chuckle. As an American Anglican (Episcopalian), I feel your pain on the Naming Day. I have friends who have had them for their grandchildren. You were smart to Google first. I sent a card for my first experience that had a Christening sentiment. Oh the horror! lolol I was lectured about that one! I soon wised up and now just put some sort of Welcome affection... xoxo

Hi Carol

You probably thought that I did not bother to try to repeat your beautiful baby card, in fact I had not forgotten, my great nephew is now a couple of weeks old and I am going to see him for the first time in the morning. I have wrapped all of the little cardigans I have made for him (plus a few bought bits and bobs) and today was to be my day for making my version of your card.

However, I have spent most of today sorting through all of my dies, and I now have 3 rhetorical questions i) why do we crafters buy so many dies? ii) I have tried several different ways of storing them and none work that well so, when you have so many, what is the best way to store them? and iii) why do these little bits of metal weigh so much? My arms and shoulders ache so much this evening from lifting heavy boxes.

I have been meaning to sort out my dies for ages, I have so many that, so time ago, they split the large box I had them in .... and I have since bought more. Unable to find another large, strong box, I have taped up the old box and it now contains all my Bigz dies and my Big Shot accessories. I recently bought a nesting set of shoe box sized boxes and I have re-purposed these to hold most of the other dies and embossing folders. So, where there was one box there are now 4 and in all honesty there is not a lot of spare room in any of them. I have also been out this afternoon and bought a ring binder and several magnetic sheets and these now have all of my nesting Spellbinder dies - there must be almost 20 sets, bought when I first got my Big Shot and hardly ever used. And in all of these die sets I have discovered that none are as pretty as yours nor will the overlap in the way you have done here!

I suspect that my card will, by necessity, look nothing like yours but I thank you for your inspiration. I guess now I really should actually start making my card as I have to be up very early tomorrow and cannot stay up all night crafting. Fingers crossed I actually get a card made and photographed for my blog, so you an see the end result. I am tempted to pose these questions there to see whether anyone attempts to answer my questions, ha ha!

I hope you have a good week.

Dionne xx
